Moral injury is a deep wound that rarely gets talked about.

It happens when people believe they have acted in ways that go against their deepest beliefs about what is right and good, and when others have been harmed as a result.

It creates intense guilt and shame because of something the person did or thinks they did that was deeply wrong.

As a result, the experience is rarely shared and the suffering can last a lifetime.

Moral injury needs special care for healing to take place.

Moral injury may happen when people:

  • Feel forced to do something they believe is wrong.
  • Are prevented from doing something they believe is right and good.
  • Are in situations where there seem to be no good options to prevent harm or make the right choice.
  • Realize they have acted in a way that violates their moral convictions.
  • Witness someone doing wrong or not doing right and they do not act to stop it.
  • Discover the group they belong to, which they thought was doing good, is actually doing bad things and causing harm.
  • Feel they are to blame for others being harmed or dying.

In this small group interactive webinar we will:

  • Describe some of the causes and effects of a moral injury.
  • Identify common emotional, spiritual, and behavioral responses to moral injury.
  • Give biblical support for how to handle feelings of guilt and shame.
  • Identify helpful ways to care for those experiencing moral injury.

It will be facilitated by Kathy Mullen, Ola Opara and Diane Murray

Guest Dr. Grant Mullen, a mental health physician, will comment at the end:

And he will explain a followup program for mental, spiritual and emotional healing.
