This is so true, and the process of clearing away the ‘rubble’ and establishing a foundation of truth is one that has been part of my husband’s and my personal lives as believers, and part of our marriage. In fact, at one particularly low point in our marriage, I felt prompted by the Lord to start a list (I’m a list-maker!) entitled ‘Truths to build our marriage on’; and the Scripture account in Nehemiah of the rebuilding of the temple was an important image and reminder for us in our lives that had evidently been being lived out based on the faulty foundation of mistaken beliefs, aka lies. Our list grew and our hope grew, as we added Scripture after scripture, declaring and accepting the truth in place of the lies that had been taking us nowhere good. And apart from that very tangible exercise many years ago, God has been continuing the process with us of exposing lies we fall for (after all, the Enemy is always at work), and illuminating the truth to stand on. It’s a very practical and powerful process I think all believers need to embrace to move toward that abundant life we are promised!
